AirPods were the butt of the joke a couple of months ago. The main reason? Their weird design with awkward extensions that looked like cans, tails or cotton swabs like some users pointed out. Now, start-up Crazybaby is crowdfunding a pair of wireless headphones very similar in design with AirPods but missing the tail, cheekily named Air #objectmagic
Air earphones aren’t just good looking; their main differentiator is the technology used – pure carbon nanotube. This allows them “to have a comfortable, ergonomic design while looking, feeling and, and sounding spectacular”. Indeed, they fit the shape of the human ear and come with three sleeves for athletes made with medical-grade silicone. The stereo headphones have a 5.2mm speaker driver, delivering Hi-Fi audio.
They communicate via Bluetooth 4.2, so you can easily use them with an Android or iOS device after downloading the companion app. From there, you can also adjust your EQ, says the manufacturer on their Indiegogo crowdfunding page. While AirPods enable you to talk to Siri, with a simple double-tap, Air allows you to talk with several assistants like Alexa, Google and yes, Siri, by tapping one button.
Crazybaby’s headphones are also noise-isolating and waterproof with an IPX6 rating, which cannot be said about the AirPods. In Air’s case, the main drawback is the charging time and listening time, really. While AirPods guarantee up to 5 hours of listening time, Air can only go for 3 hours on one charge and need 2 hours to fully recharge. It does so in the case it comes in, which serves as storage place, too.
If you’re not listening to music 24/7 and charging time isn’t a priority, this could be a great alternative to AirPods. Crazybaby intends to start shipping in January 2017 , at an early bird price of $109.
