Tesla’s first major Powerwall project brought back power to a local hospital in Puerto Rico that was affected by the devastating Hurricane Maria #todaymagic

Elon Musk proudly announced the feat on its Twitter account. Tesla was able to help restore energy for Hospital del Niño after the grid suffered major damage with a few hundred energy storage batteries.

This was part of a unique approach Puerto Rico has taken after the effects of Hurricane Maria. They decided to spend their funds redoing the energy grid completely, instead of rebuilding it.

This decision opened up opportunities for partnerships like the one with Whitefish Energy. The small Montana company announced that it had signed a $300 million contract with the island’s Electric Power Authority to repair and rebuild big areas of the electrical infrastructure.

The authorities reacted boldly to the latest natural disaster, giving both companies but especially Tesla, the chance to show that renewable energy and storage batteries can make a big difference in disaster-struck areas.
