ASUS ROG Phone 2 Long Term Review: No Wonder It’s A Hit!

It’s been a long time in the making, I know. Maybe if we tested a phone less ambitious, less awaited by gamers and Android users alike, you’d have seen this review a while ago. But we took our time, dug and dug and dug and after weeks of using it, we can judge it fairly for both ROG fans and folks that have never wanted a gaming phone or used an ASUS smartphone.

First, let me say this: it’s no wonder ROG Phone 2 was a hit with plenty of bloggers and made headlines all fall. Is it addictive? You bet! The spectacular specs are enough to draw you in and after using it, you’ll definitely find reasons to doubt your choices in life (like your current smartphone).

The amount of customization you can do on the ROG Phone 2 is crazy! From the Armory Crate to the Game Genie, this is the phone you can tweak over and over again.

Battery Secrets and Audio Wizard

Done tuning? If you’re like us, as much as you’d dive into a particular game, you won’t help but feel like something’s missing. Maybe how do you make those AirTriggers extremely responsive to your particular press signature? Or how do you turn on that RGB Lighting?

As we checked those, we found particular setups ASUS came up with, setups that have their perks and their drawbacks, of course.

The 6,000 mAh battery is by itself an incentive to get this phone, if you hate charging every other day. But we discovered ASUS went the extra mile and offered dozens of options to make sure you get the most of your battery, even if it’s a monster cell like this one. Then, the audio wizard. That’s something nobody talks about but, guys, it’s worth checking it out – there you’ll discover a nice surprise from DTS.

Other nice UX touches were the hand and glove mode additions which shows that, as much as ROG Phone 2 is meant to be handled in landscape, it can also be used in one hand.

One Hand Mode, Camera and Our Verdict

Camera-wise, we’ll be frank: ASUS ROG Phone 2 doesn’t have all the bells and whistles that this year’s flagship phones sport, but it’s good enough if you’re using the ROG 2 mostly for gaming.

Oh, and last but not least, we wanted to see if you could get a great experience without all the arm-candy. You know, without all the accessories that make the bundle pretty expensive. To see our verdict, hit play!

All in all, ASUS ROG Phone 2 is definitely the most well thought gaming phone we’ve seen. It’s something PC gamers will enjoy, it they can’t stay away from games on the road, as well as console gamers – I mean, they will love the Air Triggers.
