Google’s Artificial Intelligence Is Learning People Skills From Romance Novels

Google’s AI is terrifyingly good at behaving like a human – remember the Go game with Lee Sedol? – but not so much at people skills. Its sentences are blunt and awkward so the company put books at its disposal to catch up on human interactions. Romance novels, to be more exact #machinemagic

If you’re wondering why Google is going to Sandra Brown for intelligent conversations, the reason is simple – all stories are similar. While the plot is the same, words change every time, so the AI can focus more on the language, than on the different plots. Until now, the artificial intelligence has gone through 2,865 romance novels; at this rate, Google’s program will soon write its own love tragedy.

The purpose is a very different one, though. The more the AI learns, the better will other company poroducts behave. Smart reply, for example, a program that can write and send simple replies for your e-mails, saving you time, could benefit after these learnings.
