Mate 20 Pro is yet to be launched but Huawei didn’t come empty-handed at IFA. The company unveiled the Honor Play instead, a mid-ranger made with gamers in mind. It wasn’t what we expected but we can’t really complain.

If you think about it, there aren’t really that many gaming handsets on the market. Those that are, like the Razer Phone and the Asus ROG, are flagship devices priced at over $700. So, really, there are no mid-range options for gamers who can’t spend a fortune on a phone like that but long for one.

There aren’t, but there should be. Seeing Honor take the lead in that direction was refreshing. The Honor Play is going to sell for 329 euros (base model).

Besides being an affordable phone, it is a powerful one too, running on a Kirin 970 processor and offering 4GB or 6GB RAM (depending on the region and model), plus a “GPU turbo”.  That extends the phone’s battery life and offers higher frame rates.

Yue gave PUBG Mobile a go, since it’s the first game to take advantage of the GPU turbo and 4D Smart Shock technology Honor Play has, making the device vibrate depending on the in-game actions. She didn’t last long enough to deplete the 3,750mAh battery but we encourage you to give it a go.

When you’re not playing PUBG, you can take selfies with the 16MP front camera or beautiful portraits with the 16MP and 2MP dual-lens rear shooter.

If the blue version is a bit tame for your taste, look for the Player Edition Black and Player Edition Red versions. For those edgy looks, you’ll have to pay an extra 20 euros, though.
