After Huawei hit jackpot with the P9, gaining recognition at continent level, the company decided to move forward with their plans with Leica. They concluded they are a good enough fit to open a joint research facility in Germany #todaymagic
The R&D place will be called Max Berek Innovation Lab, after one of Leica’s first and most famous engineers for creating the first Leica lenses. The facility is situated in Wetzlar and will focus on imaging research, but also developments in VR and AR. As you recall, Huawei joined the series of companies to develop a headset of their own in April. Their selling point is a “360-degree sound field on the go” that reassures us in the audio department, but can’t quite make up for the lack of crisp video quality.
Presumably, here is where Leica will give a helping hand in the near future. Truth is, the partnership could be a match made in heaven, benefiting both companies. Huawei’s recent wave of popularity combined with Leica’s imaging expertise and great reputation could make these two unstoppable.
