Rumor: iPhone 8 Is Supposed to Boast Facial And Gesture Recognition

New week, new rumors. Now, analyst Timothy Arcuri from Cowen and Company says iPhone 8 will be capable of facial and gesture recognition thanks to a front-facing sensor #mobilemagic

Although most reports pinpoint to 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch Apple models this year, Arcuri believes a new 5.8-inch version is in the works. This flagship smartphone is supposed to have an OLED wraparound display and sport a facial/gesture recognition technology “supported by a new laser sensor and an infrared sensor mounted near the front-facing camera”. It will also feature Touch ID under the glass, in the display, not under the home button.

These new capabilities could be put to good use as extra security measures or augmented reality tools, something which Tim Cook has favored lately.

Other rumors concerning Apple’s anniversary smartphones include wireless charging, more color options, waterproof technology and an almost entire glass body.
