NASA’s weather-watching Terra satellite spotted an extraordinary cloud formation that happened due to a winter storm in the US, On November 28th.
The cloud formation looks like a giant, white rainbow. The company highlighted the impressive formation as its Earth Observatory image of the day, and we are not surprised, it is beautiful.
The cloud formation is composed of cirrus clouds shaped by a jet streak, a very fast-moving air current in the atmosphere. According to the agency, these streaks are “important to the formation of winter storms because they are associated with rising air, which can trigger clouds and precipitation.”
The cirrus arc on display is certainly a nice giveaway of the jet streaks and maybe some of NASA’s best cloud views from space in history.
