According to a recent survey conducted by Spotify, the company could soon be launching a subscription podcast service. Basically, the app would give access to a variety of original shows or exclusives for a monthly fee.
The rumor comes from Variety’s Intelligence Platform President Andrew Wallenstein who received a questionnaire measuring user interest in the potential platform.
Apparently, the premium podcast plan would be ad-free and offer exclusive content at a price between $3-$8. The cheaper version of the subscription would cover exclusive interviews and episodes with ads, while the most expensive one would have “high-quality original content” without the ads.
Anyhow, a Spotify spokesman indicated that there is “no further news to share on future plans at this time. At Spotify, we routinely conduct a number of surveys in an effort to improve our user experience. Some of those end up paving the path for our broader user experience and others serve only as important learnings,” he confirmed.
