According to a report coming in from Bloomberg, Walmart might prove to be the next big name on the Android tablet market. The retailer has plans to introduce a new tablet under the store brand, as part of its attempts to bring back to life its electronics department.
Tara House, a Walmart spokeswoman has confirmed to Bloomberg that the product is currently under development but has not offered any details about it for the time being.
However, an FCC documentation does reveal an 8-inch Android tablet with a matte plastic body and a rear speaker, under the retailer’s brand, ONN.
XDA Developers was quick to report a specs list for the device as well and, by the looks of it, the device will have Android 9 Pie and a 1280×800 display, a MediaTek MT8163 processor and 2GB of RAM with 16GB of storage.
It will have a 3,500mAh battery and a microUSB cable with a 2A charger. In addition to that, the report also mentions that a 10 inch version of the tablet will also be available.
For now, we don’t know when exactly when the tablet will find a place on the Walmart shelves but, considering it has already been listed on FCC, we can expect it to make an appearance in the next couple of months.
Could Walmart be the one to shake up the declining tablet market? Well, that remains to be seen. If the retailer’s devices will indeed, make a difference, we’ll make sure to let you know.
