All-electric cars are expected to become ubiquitous and many automotive manufacturers have joined the market. One such company is Canadian based Electra Meccanica Vehicles Corps. Solo, their three-wheeled single seater take on an electric vehicle, looks to shake up the industry.
Designed with solo commuters in mind, the aptly named Solo takes all the features you want from more conventional vehicles and condenses it into a more economical space. Drivers will still get to enjoy amenities like a rear-view camera, large storage space, and adjustable seat, among others, while making it easier to drive and park in big cities.
While convenient, Solo still proves to be a powerful all-electric vehicle. With an 8 second 0-60, the car provides almost as much acceleration as Porsches and other high-end vehicles. Additionally, it has a top speed of about 82mph. It only takes 3 hours to fully charge and can go up to 100mi on a single charge, enough for several days of work commute.
With a price of $15,500, Solo is more economically accessible than most other all-electric cars. In an interview with Bloomberg Television, Electra Meccanica Vehicles Corps. CEO Jerry Kroll stated the following about the electric car industry: “It is great to produce a $45,000, a $100,000 car or a $250,000 care. But for the masses? A $15,000 car that can get them to stop using gas. That’s creative.”
According to Bloomberg, Electra Meccanica Vehicles Corps.’ stock rose 220% on Wednesday. With a vision and vehicle like Solo, it’s not surprising that the market is reacting positively. With an expected 5,000 cars hitting the road by December, it’s certain we’ll see a lot more Solo in the future.
