Facebook Gameroom Is Finally Live

Gameroom, Facebook’s gaming platform for PC is finally live, available for download on Windows 7 and up #softwaremagic

Yesterday, Facebook announced officially that Gameroom is open for developers who want to create games. They will have easy access to Facebook’s 1.6 bn users while the rest of us will be able to play web and native Gameroom titles in a separate app from the Facebook official one. The new platform is viewed as a Steam competitor, the PC platform owned by Valve where you can get games, talk with fellow Steamers and play multiplayer. The idea is indeed the same, but Facebook’s Gameroom should appeal to casual gamers, not the hard core ones you mostly find on Steam.

Besides struggling to attract a part of the gamers registered on Steam, Facebook also has to convince developers its users can become long-term players. If Facebook achieves that, all sides will win – developers will reach their target audience, Facebook will make money from ads, content from live streaming and immerse more of their fans in the social digital world.

Developers can already find lots of shooters, strategy and puzzle games on Gameroom. This should work as a boost of confidence, encouraging them to check out the platform’s potential. Consumers will also be able to access Gameroom soon and Steam… well, Steam is probably going to watch how it all unfolds from a close distance.
