First Nintendo Smartphone Game, Launching in March
For Nintendo fans, Christmas is coming sooner this year, in March. The company is going to revive Club Nintendo rewards program this spring, while launching their first smartphone game / entertainment app.
My Nintendo is marketed as a general online service that will offer, once more, points to receive special discounts, get extra content and original products. This time around, you can gain gold points every time you purchase 3DS and Wii software and platinum points for every hour spent playing Nintendo games on your smartphone. Through My Nintendo, you will finally be able to buy games online and download them automatically on the console.
If that wasn’t enough for an early Christmas present, maybe their first smartphone game will be. They call it an entertainment app, we say it has a bit of both. Miitomo is a free for now, life-sim game where you build your avatar (Mii) and connect with people similar to you. In a sense, it’s a social network for shy people, who would rather use an AR-style character than their real face.
The app will be available in 16 countries at first and its one of five smartphone games Nintendo plans to release until March 2017. In Japan, Miitomo will launch at the same time as My Nintendo, on iOS and Android.
