Today, Senior Writer at Sucker Punch Productions Patrick Downs provided an in-depth look at the story behind Ghost of Tsushima’s expansion into Iki Island on PlayStation.Blog.
Jin Sakai will return as the protagonist, yet he will turn his eyes towards a new threat off the shores of Tsushima. He hears reports of Mongol invasions on Iki Island. However, unlike his bout with Khotun Khan, he finds himself faced against a shaman named Ankhsar Khatun, or the Eagle” who not only wields great might, but also has a mysterious control of souls.
Beyond Khatun, however, Jin will have to “face old fears, and unearth deeply buried traumas… [and] delve into the dark past of clan Sakai.”
Iki Island also bears few resemblances to Tsushima as samurai have no stronghold there. Instead, the people are independent and “unsavory” compared to Jin’s measured upbringing. Yet he will have to pair up with the locals in order to take down the Eagle.
The Iki Island expansion will come with Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut on August 20th.
