Samsung has been teasing for months that a refurbished version of the controversial Galaxy Note 7 would launch this summer in selected markets. Now, we have confirmation – the Note 7 will sell as the “Galaxy Note Fan Edition” #mobilemagic
The first promotional poster for the new phablet has been seen in South Korean stores. Samsung intends to put the phone up for sale beginning with July 7. Since it’s a refurbished model, you can expect the same design and internals, except the battery. This brand new series of smartphones will feature a smaller battery to avoid the likelihood of history repeating itself.
Truth is, Samsung is risking a lot here. They’re about to release in the wild a phone that has caused a huge fiasco last year, one that left a mark on their reputation. Even with the new safety protocols, if one unit catches fire or presents other battery issues, Samsung is going to find itself in front of a firing squad.
Plus, it’s bad timing; Note 7 will be released a couple of months before the Galaxy Note 8 hits the market. Won’t fans go for the new device instead of settling for a refurbished one?
Price could play a major role here. If the manufacturer can sell it for a decent, low price, users might take the bait. But rumor is the company isn’t going to launch it for less than $650/unit. So, what do you think – in these conditions, will Note 7 phones sell like hotcakes?
