At the Game Developers Conference yesterday, Sony revealed the much asked about price of its PlayStation VR, as well as the release date and other equipment pieces you need to enjoy a full virtual reality experience.

First of all, the good news is that the headset itself will have a lower price than the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. Sony says it will sell for $399 in October, this year, versus the $600, $800 respectively. There’s a catch, though – you need to buy separate components to play VR games.

You will require a PlayStation Camera that costs $59.99 and controllers that are also available separately. The headset will come only with the connection cable, HDMI and USB cables, headphones, and a power supply. Still, cheer up – the Playroom for VR is free, as well as six mini-games that come with it.

Sony expects to make 50 games available for players in 2016, while more than 230 developers are working on future titles. Those will be a delight to test, especially in Cinematic Mode, where you will enjoy “360 degrees photos and videos that are captured by devices such as omnidirectional cameras on PS VR via PS4 Media Player, which will let them feel as if they are physically inside the captured scene.”
