This fall, Tamagotchi will be 20 years old. With this occasion, the beloved toy of the 90s will make a reappearance. A smaller version of the original device will be up for grabs this fall #objectmagic
In 1997, the first Tamagotchi saw the light of day. Twenty years have passed, during which the new generations didn’t have the opportunity to experience the thrill of taking care of a digital pet. Sure, copies emerged, but the real, original one eluded us. Well, now, things are about to change. Bandai America has decided to celebrate the 20th Anniversary with a gift for all kids out there. A smaller, limited edition Tamagotchi device will hit stores this fall.
“For many Generation X kids, the Tamagotchi device can be considered America’s first and favorite digital pet,” said Tara Badie, marketing director for Bandai America in today’s press release. “The enduring power of Tamagotchi is its clear expression that nurturing and love never goes out of style. It’s such an honor to bring back one of the most beloved toys in a way that captures the magic and joy of a generation while embracing the sensibilities of new generations.” Since its debut, the company has sold more thna 82 million Tamagotchi toys around the world.
The new gadget won’t be so different from the older ones. It retains the popular egg shape and screen but comes in six different shell designs, each of them representative for a different character. Starting with November 5, fans will be able to purchase them from North American retailers. One mini toy will cost around $14.99.
