OnePlus has done a pretty good job in the flagship market with the release of OnePLus 8 and 8 Pro and is now ready to get back into mid-rangers. After five years since the release of OnePlus X, an excellent affordable phone for its time, the company is planning to unveil the OnePlus Z 5G.
Initially assumed to be called OnePlus 8 Lite, the new device was somewhat discussed by CEO Pete Lau in an interview with Fast Company.
“We can look at it as having a more affordable product offering,” Lau says through an interpreter, “but all products that still remain up to the OnePlus standard . . . and through this enabling, more people to have access to OnePlus products.”
The release of the affordable OnePlus Z 5G was supposedly delayed by the coronavirus pandemic but is now looking at a July launch. The new device will reportedly be equipped with a Snapdragon 765G SoC, same as the LG Velvet and Motorola Edge or the upcoming Google Pixel 5.
According to Android Central, the OnePlus Z 5G will arrive in India on July 10th and it will have a 6.55-inch 90Hz AMOLED display, 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage for the base model, and a 48MP camera at the back along with a 16MP wide-angle lens and a 2MP macro module.
A global release for the OnePlus Z 5G isn’t in sight yet, but this seems to be a big step the company is taking in the mid-range market.
