GoPro Fusion Camera Reunites Six Cameras Into One

GoPro’s next project isn’t a better drone (Thank God!) but a spherical camera. GoPro Fusion‘s bold claim is the ability to reunite six GoPros into one #actioncamera

GoPro has unwrapped their future action camera project, Fusion. This bad boy was designed to capture 5.2K resolution VR videos as well as traditional clips and photos. This is why GoPro is promoting it as a 6-in-1 deal to debut sometime this year. The release date isn’t official yet, nor is the price, because GoPro wants to get some needed feedback before that.

In fact, in their official press release , GoPro is inviting people to test Fusion this summer, through a carefully thought-out pilot program. They’re open to applications from brands, agencies and even PRO content creators who would like to take it for a ride. Why this sudden change in tactics? GoPro is probably just cautious after the mixed reviews Karma drone got and the initial hiccups. On the other hand, the company might just want to raise awareness about their product, since it’s more than a 360-degree camera. It carries a surprising editing tool, OverCapture.

Jess Foley, GoPro Senior Product Manager of Spherical Solutions, described it best here: “Imagine never having to worry about framing your subject…ever. Yes, cameras do the heavy lifting already, but it still takes the eye to compose a shot, right? Well, thanks to Fusion, our users will be able to record their moments in all directions and then go back and choose the composition they want.” Basically, this solution helps content creators select HD-quality shots, whether they are video or photo, from spherical footage. There won’t be anymore excuses like “I just didn’t get the shot”.

Foley believes this feature can eliminate a lot of effort from the get-go:It’s like having a camera team with you when you shoot capturing your primary and b-roll footage. From there, you have the flexibility in post-production to pick and share all sides of your story in conventional HD.
