MWC 2017: Samsung Tab S3 Includes The Best Features of Galaxy Note 7

Samsung is still trying to make amends for the Note 7 disappearance. This time though, they skipped the sincere apology note and replaced it with something more palpable: a powerful, sleek tablet that includes the best of Note 7, Tab S3 #hardwaremagic

We’ve found that Samsung’s intention to offer an iPad alternative is not at all far-fetched. At the Samsung booth in the Mobile World Congress hall, the tablet stood out as a premium device whose functionality is greater this time, thanks to the thicker, crayon-like S Pen. As opposed to previous models, Samsung Tab S3 has a glass finish that you’ll immediately relate to the Galaxy S7 smartphone.

The tablet’s display is a 9.7-inch QXGA Super AMOLED that the company presents as “HDR ready” with the fingerprint sensor built in the physical button at the bottom of the tablet. On the frame, at the top and bottom, we found quad speakers that are tuned by AKG and should direct the sound depending on the orientation of the tablet at the moment of use. So, in matters of display and sound, you’re set with the Tab S3.

We also loved the fact that this time the optional keyboard binds with magnets. Yes, it takes two or three tries to get the hang of it but in the end, you’ll notice it looks much better, as if the two pieces were molded together.

That said, the real reason of excitement here is, undoubtedly, the presence of S Pen. The Note series stylus comes with the tablet now, although there’s no slot for it. You’ll just have to throw it in the bag with all the other writing instruments. It’s thicker than the one designed for the phablet but we found it makes for a better grip and more control when drawing. As expected, it opens the Air Command launcher where you can find the apps you use most of the time. Naturally, Screen write and Smart select are quick to find here as well, with the first able to launch from the off screen, too.

Here’s a list of all the specs:

  • Snapdragon 820 processor
  • 4GB of RAM, 32GB internal storage (US model)
  • microSD card
  • 13MP rear camera + 5MP front camera
  • 6000mAh battery with fast charging
  • NO water resistance
  • color options: silver, black

Our verdict: Samsung Tab S3 can be a great tool for freelancers and artists, as it blends portability with performance, visuals, note-taking and drawing. It can easily be an iPad replacement if the price is right and you’re an Android fan.
