The Nintendo Switch has been home to many indie games and Indie World is the company’s way of showcasing new indie games coming soon. August’s Indie Direct had a lot of games to look forward to for the next year and a half.
The two big games announced are mythology based games Hades (fall 2020) and Raji: An Ancient Epic (available now). Hades a rogue-like dungeon crawler game built on a mechanic of slowly building up and retrying in order to win. PC gamers will recognize Hades and will be able to transfer their save files to the Switch. Raji is more an action adventure where the aesthetics, world, and game play are based on Indian culture and history.
Evergate and Spiritfarer are available now and both games which focus on navigating the afterlife. Evergate is a 2D platformer based on movement. Ki, the protagonists, uses its soul flame and crystals to slow down time and traverse through the afterlife. Spiritfarer is more focused on management and relationship building. The character acts as a steward for spirits, building up their ship to transport and spend time with the spirits before they enter the afterlife.
Management and community building are also central to Garden Story (2021) and Bear and Breakfast (2021). Garden Story is similar to Stardew Valley, seemingly balancing building up a particular community with action adventure aspects. Bear and Breakfast is about creating and managing a bed & breakfast in the woods.
Finally, the biggest announcement for many was the final: Untitled Goose Game will have multiplayer content. Releasing on September 23rd, at least two players will be able to be geese and mess with the neighborhood. It is unclear if there will be new missions specific for multiplayer or if it will be a rehash of the single player content. Additionally, there will be physical version of the game coming out as well.
