Recently, fan favorite RPG The World Ends With You was ported to the Switch. But that was not all for the series. Publishers Square Enix announced the game’s sequel, NEO: The World Ends With You.
The trailer announcements shows off a little bit of the stylized Shibuya setting and character models the first game made so iconic. It appears as if the game may be following a similar plot to the original based on the bright words “the game begins anew” which flashed at the beginning of the trailer. Unfortunately, the trailer did not provide much in terms of confirmed information on gameplay or story as its main focus was on bringing players back to the stylized Shibuya setting. Several main characters seem to be introduced as well, but specifics were not discussed.
The World Ends With You (2007/2008) has a steady following of fans thanks to its unique gameplay, memorable aesthetics, and critically acclaimed soundtrack. This sudden sequel announcement is also being well received as at the time of reporting, the video trailer on Nintendo’s official channel has overwhelming positive responses.
NEO: The World Ends With You coming out on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 summer 2021.
