It has been nearly two years since we saw Huawei’s latest foldable smartphone, the Mate Xs, a device that surprised the world with its elegant design. The Chinese company has now updated the series with a new design and improved hardware, as well as some aesthetic changes , with the new Mate Xs 2.

The new version of the Mate Xs comes with a large 7.8-inch OLED screen with a resolution of 2480 x 2200 pixels, as well as a refresh rate of 120Hz. When the device is folded, the screen shrinks to 6.5 inches with a resolution of 2480 x 1176 pixels.
There is a 10MP front camera placed in the top right corner of the panel. The device overall weighs just 255 grams, which is a notable improvement when compared to the previous model, whose total weight was 300 grams. This means that the device is the lightest foldable on the market.
The new Mate Xs 2 comes with an improved double-rotor hinge that has a greater durability and, according to the company, will get rid of that dreaded middle screen crease. The screen is protected by a four-layer polymer cover and, in addition to that, it’s also compatible with the M-Pen 2s stylus.
In the camera sector, on the back we’ll find a 50MP main snapper, a 13MP ultra-wide sensor and an 8MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom, 30x digital zoom and OIS.
The foldable device is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 4G processor with 8GB/12GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. The battery is 4880 mAh with 66W fast charge. The Huawei Mate Xs 2 runs HarmonyOS 2.0 out of the box.
The Mate Xs 2 will be available in white, purple and black colors for a price starting at $1,512 for the base 8GB + 256GB version, while the 12GB + 512GB model will cost approximately $1,966. Pre-sales will start in China on May 6.
