BMW brought the big guns to CES this year and by big guns we mean impressive tech, in the form of the R1250 GS motorcycle.
What makes this motorcycle unique among its kind is the fact that it can ride all by itself – the bike has been under development for around three years and, even if BMW intended to use the tech for testing advanced rider-assistance systems instead of releasing it on bikes available to the general public, it still got everyone curious.
The R1250 GS is equipped with an advanced gyroscope that allows it to determine its lean angle (which is a feature present on most of the recent BMW bikes) and it has been showing off in Las Vegas as it performed demo after demo.
Testing the bike like this will bring changes to the upcoming R-touring bikes in the shape of adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking. According to BMW, these changes will amount to only a few hundred dollars extra in the usual cost of its most recent motorcycles.
The tech will not allow the bike to drive itself but it will prove to be a good tool that will help riders that are new to motorcycles stay safe as well as work as a good backup even for the experienced ones.
