Google Maps already has a few new features under its belt, including the ability to show you the nearest EV charging station and the addition of Incognito Mode; now the app will also show speed limits, speed cameras and mobile speed cameras.

This new addition was first discovered by a Reddit user about a week ago: “Was planning out a route and suddenly saw this.” they said “I knew Google was rolling the feature out to more countries outside the US, but never knew when to expect it here.”

Three days later, a U.K user also confirmed the feature has been around in the country for a while already and that it’s getting more and more accurate with each passing day.

There’s a fixed camera on my way to the motorway, freeway for our cousins, and that took a few weeks to be detected. They said. When I turn on to the motorway I get warnings of ALL the fixed cameras in the smart motorway around Manchester. It just WORKS…

We mostly rely on Google Maps to find various businesses or check it when traveling on foot through cities we’re not familiar with and, as of recently, we can also order food via the app as well but it looks like Google has plans to change things and add more features to benefit the motorists.

Last year for example, some Reddit users reported spotting incident, crash and speed trap reports popping up on Google Maps. Those features were seen sporadically in different countries and had not rolled out globally though, further adding up to the confusion about what exactly was going on.

Judging by all the reports we see on the internet, the company started to roll out the speed camera-spotting feature more or less around two weeks ago, on both Android and iOS.

The Android users however, have one more extra feature: they can report both the mobile speed cameras and stationary cameras themselves, which will be visible to iOS users too.

Waze is the most well-known navigation platform, as it crowdsources all sorts of travel information, from crashes and cars pulled on the side of the road all the way to road closures and gas prices but it can prove to be overwhelming to those who are new to it so this new addition to Google Maps might look more appealing to the people who prefer the way Google Maps chooses its routes.

Apparently, Google confirmed to TechCrunch a full list of the countries that now support the speed camera-spotting feature, a list which includes: Australia, Brazil, U.S., Canada, U.K., India, Mexico, Russia, Japan, Andorra, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czechia, Estonia, Finland, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Israel, Italy, Jordan, Kuwait, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Morocco, Namibia, Netherlands, Norway, Oman, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Romania, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Slovakia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Tunisia, and Zimbabwe.

That’s quite comprehensive, don’t you think? If your country’s on the list, have you noticed any changes yet?
