Apple To Announce Budget Version iPhones Due To Lower Sales and Chinese Competition

Credit: TrendForce

According to industry analysts quoted by TrendForce, Apple may introduce the 6.1-inch LCD iPhone with a price that starts at $699 and goes up at $749, in a response to last year’s lower sales as well as to the strong competition coming in from Chinese brands.

Apple is also rumored to have been trying to reduce the cost of components by bargaining with its supply chain partners and Samsung as well, in an attempt to reduce the price of the OLED display panels. All these price cuts would help a lower bill be passed on to the customers.

What we expect from the Apple lineup this fall are two OLED models that stand at 5.8 and 6.5 inches and a 6.1 inch low-cost LCD model. All three of them will have Face ID.

Analysts also expect Apple to introduce a 512GB storage option for the OLED models . The Apple Pencil to also make an appearance alongside the new iPhones, something which analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has stated in the past that will eventually happen, though he predicted it will not come around earlier than 2019.

Apple is expected to launch its new lineup at their usual event in September.
