Hardcore gamers are not easy to please. Promise them a gaming phone that will change their lives and they’ll immediately expect an incredible display refresh rate, a processor that can handle all that heat and powerful audio that can match the vivid gameplay. Impressively, Asus delivered just that with the ROG Phone. Players will not just get a 90Hz display and the latest chip from Snapdragon 845, but also, for the first time on a gaming phone, DTS:X Ultra audio support.
Why is this important?
Having DTS:X Ultra audio support means enhancing the overall mobile user experience. Asus ROG players will be able to hear and locate accurately their opponents, as well as all other in-game environmental sounds. The bass response, loudness, and audio clarity will be enhanced and tuned specifically for the phone’s speakers and any pair of connected headphones.
In other words, the lines between game and reality will get blurred, users feeling less like players and more like heroes.
How is it done?
DTS:X Ultra technology can represent sound sources in a 3D environment relative to the listener with utmost precision. It can also support all immersive audio formats.
“The ROG Phone takes mobile gaming to the next level with its advanced design and technology, and we are proud to deliver impactful, immersive sound over headphones through the DTS:X Ultra solution,” said Geir Skaaden, chief products and services officer at Xperi. “We want to help gamers stay one step ahead of their competition from start to finish of every game, and DTS:X Ultra technology achieves that.”
When is it coming?
Later this fall, Asus ROG will become the first gaming phone to get DTS:X Ultra immersive audio technology via an over-the-air (OTA) update.
“We designed the ROG Phone specifically to revolutionize the gaming experience for mobile gamers,” pointed out Bryan Chang, general manager of the ASUS Mobile Business Unit. “Now thanks to our collaboration with DTS, the ROG Phone delivers an unprecendented audio experience for all mobile gamers.”
