Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is one of Nintendo’s finest games. Last year at E3, the company announced the sequel to the game was in development. And on Tuesday, Nintendo suddenly released a trailer for a Breath of the Wild prequel. The best news? It’s coming out later this year!
Nintendo’s Line Up of Games Made Their E3 Event One of the Best
Titled Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, the game is set 100 years before Breath of the Wild. This is the story some fans wanted in the original, with a focus more of how Hyrule was lost to Ganon and the dark forces. The game features Zelda, Link, and all the Champions as they fight against impending doom.
However, the game will not play like the original game. Instead, Nintendo partnered with KOEI Tecmo Games, the makers of the Warriors series. KOEI Tecmo has already made a Zelda based Warriors game (Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition) so they are familiar with the IP. Unlike Hyrule Warriors, Age of Calamity will only be using as source material the Breath of the Wild world rather than combining multiple incarnations of Link. Nintendo has worked with KOEI Tecmo on the style, story, dialogue, and more to ensure that this is the definitive story of what happened during the Great Calamity.
Although Warriors games often get mixed reviews because of their unique 1 vs. 1000 gameplay, this style may actually fit the events of the Great Calamity well. Given that it was a war that completely devastated Hyrule, this gameplay may more accurately depict the intensity of battles than the style of combat offered in the original game. Many fans will also be excited as the Warrior style emphasizes playing as multiple characters, meaning that we will be able to play as each of the Champions.
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity will release November 20th, 2020.
