The finality of the Z in Sony’s series should have raised some questions about its life-span since the beginning. Towards the end of Mobile World Congres, one thing has become painfully obvious: the premium line is dead and about to be replaced with the latest X handsets, after earning positive reviews in Barcelona.
Sony has said as much in an official statement:
“The Xperia Z line has reached its culmination – Xperia X series represents a new chapter and evolution of our product strategy. Whilst the Xperia Z series was all about bringing the best of Sony’s advanced technologies to smartphones, Xperia X series is based on bringing smart, adaptive Sony user experiences across camera, battery performance and hardware / software design.”
It seems that the company will focus on hardware and software technologies rather than on display from now on. It’s clear they want to offer great perfomance in the mid-range device lineup, leaving premium smartphones aside, for now.
