Cracking the Ben and Jerry Ice Cream Lock? The Wisdom Hidden In This Hilarious Story

Did you know about the Ben and Jerry Euphori Lock? A few years back, the ultra-popular ice cream maker launched a joke Ben and Jerry’s ice cream lock designed to protect a pint from ice-cream thieves.

Featuring a three-letter code, the Ben and Jerry pint lock seemed like a great way to also go on a diet, the idea being that, if you had to input the code, you’d have time to also change your mind.

The problem? The Ben and Jerry’s ice cream lock actually became the best security story of all time, once a popular YouTuber bought it.

At this point, I’d say it’s a security fable that should be taught in cybersecurity classes to better illustrate the old adage of “security is only as strong as the weakest link.”

Just watch this fantastic video from Lockpickinglwyer, who bought the Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream Lock for his wife.

So, was Lockpickinglawyer’s wife deterred in any way? Watch the video below, it’s an under 2 minute fantastic short story.

Seriously though, this could have been an amazing product. If only Ben&Jerry’s actually listened more to the fan that gave them the idea:

“This delightfully tongue-in-cheek concept actually came from one of our customers, who suggested we start selling our ice cream in stainless steel containers with padlocks on them,” Katie O’Brien from the company said in the original press release.

Metal pints might have slowed down Lockpickinglawyer’s wife, though I’m sure she would have found a way eventually.

Now someone please lock my pint of Halo Top, I’m sure there’s something dangerous in it. Nothing so low calorie could be so tasty, there must be a catch!
