In the chase for bigger, better cameras and higher MP counts, companies have to get creative to explain to smartphone buyers why their is the better choice.
Samsung pays homage to the true nature of technology (a means to share cat pictures) with a humongous cat photo hung as a billboard.
“How big can a photo of a cat get?,” asks Samsung in their promo for the 200MP ISOCELL HP1 camera sensor revealed in September 2021.
The answer is “pretty big”. Using that sensor, Samsung took a photo of a gorgeous cat, then printed it on a 28 x 22-meter canvas.
The billboard is made up of twelve separate 2.3 meter long pieces that were stitched together and hung from a building, so everyone could see even the smallest detail from a distance.
The goal is obviously to show you how far you can zoom on a phone using the 200MP ISOCELL HP1 camera sensor.
However, it’s worth noting that the cat picture was shot using just the sensor in a rig built by professional photographers. As of now, there’s no phone on the market using the 200MP ISOCELL HP1, though Motorola will reportedly launch one this summer.
