Fuchsia OS Might Replace Android

Google has been working on a new operating system for about two years already and it has mostly been regarded as a concept all this time, until recently. The system, named Fuchsia, seems to be gaining traction and there is word that it might actually be intended to replace Android and dig the graves for Linux and Java once and for all.

Word about Fuchsia OS appeared back in 2016 when Google was sending project codes to GitHub, then, a year later, some images revealed the project. Bloomberg reports that, at the moment, over 100 people are working on Fuchsia, so the project is out of its basement days for sure.

Google has not been hiding the fact that it wants to have an operating system that is able to run on smartphones, tablets, smart speakers, laptops and every other home device out there. It makes sense though – a single operating system is much easier to handle.

The Fuchsia apparently will have an operating system kernel created from scratch, so a Linux base is out of the question. A completely new operating system would allow Google to have more control over the platform as well as secure much faster updates, bug fixes and all that fun stuff that comes with it. In addition, the operating system will have tighter security measures than its predecessor.

Obviously, the project is still in the test phase and there are issues to address with developers, manufacturers and everyone else in between before it would even be officially announced.

Even with everything going smoothly, the first device that would support Fuchsia might be launched sometime in 2021, at best.
