Google Assistant Can Finally Read Text Messages

Google Assistant has received one feature expected by many Android owners. Google finally enabled it to read messages and interact with them #softwaremagic

From now on, if you’re in the car or holding bags over bags while expecting an urgent message, you can simply ask Google Assistant to read it out loud for you. Just use one of the following prompts:

• “Show me my messages”
• “Do I have any messages?”
• “Show me my last message”

Of course, each prompt sends a different task to Google Assistant. The first one is the most confusing for an user. It shows all received text messages of late without making the difference between the new and unread and the old and opened. It can be useful if you’re looking for a specific information in an older conversation but naturally, you’ll have to further use the Assistant or take it from there yourself. Each conversation has a reply button that you have to tap to open the conversation.

The second prompt is going to show you only the new messages received while the last command is pretty straightforward. You can easily continue a conversation from where you left off by accessing the last message.

This new function works with the SMS client set, as well as Hangouts and Messenger’s text messages integration. If you can’t access it now, don’t panic – the update is rolling out these days, reaching first Pixel owners and then all Android users whose devices run on Marshmallow 6.0 or higher.
