Google Maps has taken things to the next level with their latest feature, which highlights restaurants’ most popular items on the menu, in case you need a little inspiration to pick up your next meal.
How does this work?
The time-saving new feature is made possible with the help of a machine-learning algorithm which pairs dish names previously given by Maps users with photos and reviews found online.
“This creates a handy arrangement of a restaurant’s most popular meals right at your fingertips in Google Maps,” product manager Ronnie Falcon wrote in a blog announcement.
So when you don’t feel inspired by any meal or cuisine, you simply swipe up to find popular dishes of restaurants nearby. To do that, you can get into the menu tab and scroll through all the most popular meals. Then, you just tap on the appealing dish to see what other people are saying about it or to see the photos they provided for it.
When you find yourself abroad, Maps automatically translates the reviews from the local language to your language, so the new feature can be used pretty much anywhere.
“At the end of the day, this feature is made possible because of contributions from people around the world who want to help others using Google Maps,” Falcon said.
“So if you want to pay it forward to the next diner,” she continued, “simply take a photo of your meal (before you’ve scarfed it down) and add a dish name so others can know what’s good on the menu.”
Android users can already have fun with their popular dishes feature on Google Maps no matter where they are, while iOS users will have to wait a couple of months to be able to benefit from this new feature.
Once again, Google has found a way to better our lives, while becoming even more important during our travels.
Moreover, just last week, Google launched food delivery to its branded services. Users will be able to open their Google Search or Maps to order food from third parties like DoorDash, Postmates, Delivery.com, Slice, and ChowNow.
With just a few clicks, you can make your selections, choose delivery or pickup times, and then check out using Google Pay. This is the type of fast food we approve of!
