As this year comes to an end, rumors concerning the 2018 smartphone flagships are starting to surface. As usual, leaker Evan Blass is the first to give us an idea of what to expect from Huawei P11. Surprisingly (or not), the next premium mobile device from the Chinese manufacturer will feature a never-before-seen camera combo #mobilemagic
According to his tweet, P11 will definitely be one of the best phones next year, in part due to a unique camera module. It seems that the phone will come with a 40 MP rear camera, 5x hybrid zoom and a 24 MP selfie shooter:
Is the next Huawei P-series going to be an imaging powerhouse? A digital artist at one of the company’s creative agencies added these “PCE Series” ads to their portfolio — claiming 40MP, 3 lens rear (5x hybrid zoom) + 24MP selfie, all Leica-co-developed. pic.twitter.com/t8w3VlL55L

The information and images come from a digital artist working for a “creative agency” taking care of Huawei advertisements and promotions. After Blass uploaded the picture on Twitter, the source material was pulled down. As the leaker says, that’s a sign that the rumor is legit and probably reflects next year’s reality. It’s also very likely that Huawei is working with Leica once again; the company has been their partner since the release of P9.
Given the fact that Huawei made major improvements to hardware this year, including releasing their own chip with AI engine, it’s a given that P11 will be a treat for photographers that expect performance from their smartphones, not just quality imaging.
Either way, we’ll find out the truth at the beginning of 2018. Last year, P10 was unveiled in February, so Huawei will probably respect the deadline for its successor, too.
