Anyone who was ever in a rush and was forced to use Uber during a price surge knows the pain of overpaying. The same will happen to lunch.
Be warned, this is a nightmare piece of news I didn’t want to read but, for raising awareness and hopefully pitchforks, you should read it too.
Wendy’s is experimenting with Uber-style surge pricing for their food, and wants to implement dynamic pricing for their product based on multiple factors – from time of day to user habits.
That’s right, the price of Wendy’s will go up and down based on an opaque algorithm, because that’s innovation for you.
From a Fox Business report:
“Beginning as early as 2025, we will begin testing a variety of enhanced features on these digital menu boards like dynamic pricing, different offerings in certain parts of the day, AI-enabled menu changes and suggestive selling based on factors such as weather,” a spokesperson confirmed to Fox News Digital after Wendy’s CEO Kirk Tanner announced it on an earnings call earlier this month.”
A Wendy’s spokesperson told Fox Business that this “feature” is part of a number of planned rollouts for 2025, as the chain wants to “accelerate” their digital business.
This news came out the same day as a report on how ghost kitchens are now spamming Doordash and other apps with AI-generated food photos that look nothing like what you’d get in your order.
Again, bon apple tea I guess!
