As much as Apple wants to keep our data safe, sometimes even they get sidetracked by unexpected software bugs. It appears that after the first update for iOS 9.3, users found an easy way to get access to photos and contacts on any locked phone without typing the password!
It’s all Siri’s “fault”. Youtube user Videosdebarraquito filmed his approach to bypass fingerprint authentication and passcode input by asking Siri specific things. Claiming to need an email address from Twitter, he then gets access to Contacts thanks to 3D Touch. There, it’s enough to tap to change a contact’s profile photo – there comes the Camera Roll.
Granted, it’s a lengthy process but for one who is set to see a certain number or photo, a few taps and a couple of minutes are nothing. The technique works just for phones enabled with 3D Touch but it’s enough to make us never leave our phones unsupervised… #securemagic
