Mastin Labs App Brings Film-Like Filters To Smartphones

Filmborn Mastin Labs

Photographers that have played for a while now with Lightroom and Photoshop presets have heard of Mastin Labs, maybe even used their presets. The company is diligently working on filters that emulate the vibe of real film in an increasingly digital world. Now, Mastin Labs is going mobile, by releasing their first app for iOS #mobilemagic

Filmborn is their appropriately-called app that helps you take photos and pretend you’re doing it with a camera, not a smartphone. The app helps you see in real time how the filters would look like in the chosen setting, then play with them. Adjust exposure and white balance at will, without the risk of going overboard thanks to a built-in highlighting feature.

Then, you select a viewfinder, lens and film. There are three film types available – Kodak, Fujifilm, Ilford. All the edits made to the kit can then be copied to other photos in your camera roll, just as it would in Lightroom.

In the Darkroom, you’ll be able to edit photos in a non-destructive format, tweaking even the default film presets. Oh, there’s another nice touch, too: every film comes with info and advice so you can learn more about it. The app is completely free of charge.
