It was reported earlier this year that President Obama was discussing a potential content deal with both Netflix and Apple. It seems that Netflix has won, announcing today that the deal has been reached with the Obamas.
The agreement was announced on the official Netflix Twitter where it was stated that a multi-year deal has been reached with the former presidential couple, Barack and Michelle Obama, for the production of original films and series for the company.
The exact content is unclear at the time being, though Netflix says it might include scripted and unscripted series, documentaries, features, and many more.
Earlier this year, there was a report that spoke of a series where President Obama “moderated conversations” on topics he had been interested in during his presidency, such as health care, climate change, and immigration. The First Lady would be exploring shows about nutrition and fitness, among other topics.
The deal with Netflix will most likely help President Obama have his own platform to explore key topics he holds close to his heart.
President Obama had been quoted in a statement regarding the agreement, by The New York Times :
“One of the simple joys of our time in public service was getting to meet so many fascinating people from all walks of life, and to help them share their experiences with a wider audience. That’s why Michelle and I are so excited to partner with Netflix — we hope to cultivate and curate the talented, inspiring, creative voices who are able to promote greater empathy and understanding between peoples, and help them share their stories with the entire world.”
We have no idea when the Obama-Netflix collaboration will come to fruition, but one thing’s for sure: it’s going to be exciting.
