Nintendo has only started to have its titles released to iOS and Android in 2016, having showed reluctance in entering the mobile gaming world. But it looks like they want to make more of a push for it, according to a patent the company has filed in March.
It seems like Nintendo would like to produce a phone case that will turn your smartphone into a working version of the console, complete with the buttons and the D-pad.
The case seems to be opening much like a book would, while part of it is cut out where the Game Boy screen would normally be – that’s where the game would be displayed as well, of course. The buttons would be using a conductive sheet placed within the cover in order to enable the touchscreen to sense the input, much like it senses human fingers.
The cover seems to be aimed at smartphones but Nintendo did mention that the case is an example of electronic equipment but it does not mean it can only be limited to that and has the potential to be attached to other equipment, such as tablets.
Nintendo does not go into a lot of detail about the minute details of the case and filing a patent does not mean the gadget will become a reality, of course. But we can day-dream a little, can’t we?
