Nokia phones have been waiting in the shadows for a while now, looking for the perfect moment to “attack”. In the tech world, that means taking users by storm with a surprise launch or a surprising device. The Nokia X50 phone with a flagship camera might just be the latter.
After a series of new Nokia phones landed this month quietly, a flagship is in the works. Nokia X50 seems to be the phone with flagship specs and decent price we’ve been waiting for (and that Nokia hopes to make a difference.)
Why is that? Well, the X50 will come forward with a 108MP camera in a penta setup. As you know, Nokia has been sticking to this configuration for a while now and the X50 won’t be any different. Only, this year, the main will be a 108MP shooter with Zeiss, followed by a telephoto lens, an ultrawide, macro, and depth sensors.
Audio-wise, we’ll have spatial capabilities from OZO Audio. Performance-wise, the phone won’t come with the Snapdragon 888, but it will sport a yet unannounced chip from Qualcomm.
I’m talking about the Snapdragon 775 processor which is the sequel to the 765G one. As you know, that one was Qualcomm’s attempt to make computing power accessible. So, Nokia X50 should run pretty well, while HMD will be able to cut down the costs and therefore, offer a more mid-range price.
With the 108MP sensor under its belt, a powerful processor, and a big battery – 6,000mAh battery – Nokia X50 could be the golden ticket for HMD Global, a chance to compete with tech titans again. Especially since HMD won’t cut any corners when it comes to screen, either. They will put a 6.5-inch display with a 120Hz refresh rate, a refresh rate we’ve only seen on high-end headsets and gaming ones of late.
Excited about the phone? Stay tuned for more info in the weeks to come, as the Nokia X50 should drop in the third quarter of 2021.
