HMD Global is the Finnish company that owns the rights to use the Nokia brand on phones and it has now purchased the PureView trademark from Microsoft.
PureView has long been considered to be one of the best smartphone camera experiences around so, with the acquisition, Nokia is now reunited with imaging technology, as the brand was previously owned by Nokia. Following the acquisition of Nokia Devices by Microsoft, the company got the PureView brand as well.
The PureView was initially introduced in 2013 with the Nokia 808 PureView and the introduction was soon followed by the PureView being attached to a number of Windows Phones such as the Lumia 1520 and the Lumia 1020.
Both phones still hold the record of carrying the highest resolution sensor, so it’s maybe safe to assume that the Finnish company has plans to bring even better camera quality and imaging technology in the near future to the Nokia smartphones.
At the same time, it does not mean we should be expecting anything to come out of it – HMD Global might have purchased the trademark purely for the sake of owning it and nothing more, but one can hope.
