Heeello, helpful robots! If yesterday we spotted Foldimate, the machine that folds clothes instead of us, today you’ll meet SpotMini, the dog with ridiculous long neck that does the dishes #machinemagic
SpotMini is the brainchild of Boston Dynamics, introduced just today to the whole world on YouTube. It weighs about 55 pounds without the long articulated arm that ends with a head. Unlike the other robots built by the company, this one relies just on electric motors to move around. And, by God, it really goes places! Let it loose and it will sneak into every room of your house for a full 90 minutes, if you don’t give him difficult chores.
Chores?! Exactly! This guy is meant to help you around the house. While it can do simple things, like bringing your slippers if you don’t have a dog already, you can also ask it to deliver snacks and more importantly, do the dishes! If it falls (one thing we’ve seen to much of from robots), his articulated arm will help it right itself and by using its legs, it will stand up.
Another cool fact: the arm and head can hold still while the rest of the body moves around, thanks to a solid state gyro!
