Today, Instagram is celebrating ten years of existence, and the Facebook-owned photo and video sharing social media app has a surprise for its users.
If your Instagram app is up to date, go to Menu – Settings and just swipe down. You’ll see a series of emojis leading you to a virtual confetti explosion and a message saying “To celebrate our birthday, this month we’re inviting you to change your app icon to your favorite below. Thanks for being part of our story and using Instagram to share yours.”
You’ll then be able to change your Instagram icon to a variety of options, including the Original Polaroid image and different color variations of the current icon. The icon you chose will then appear on your home screen and notifications as the new Instagram app. This feature will most likely be available just for this month only, but who knows we may be able to keep our choice for longer.
Adam Mosseri, Head of Instagram, also said in a blog post marking the anniversary the app is facing “major changes”. He said “We’ll look to accelerate ways for creators to make a living and for small businesses to sell their products. Through all these changes, our community will remain the heart of Instagram, and we’ll stay focused on keeping people safe and building new features that fight bullying, improve equity, address fairness, and help people feel supported.”
