If you haven’t heard about OpenPhone yet, you probably don’t need it, but if you happen to run a small business, you should check it out.
OpenPhone comes as a startup from the Y Combinator group – a seed accelerator which selects two batches of companies per year and helps them grow with advice, connections and seed money, in return for 7% equity.
The idea behind the OpenPhone is that you don’t need a second phone or an expensive solution to operate your business from – the app is available for IPhone, IPad and Android and all you have to do is download it and you get a second phone number for $9.99 a month.
The option to port an already existing phone number in order to get rid of your second phone is also available.
All of your calls and text will also get a clear separation between the personal and professional ones and you can set up a completely different voicemail.
OpenPhone operates with VoIP and all your calls and texts are routed via internet connection.
For now, OpenPhone plans to stay focused on only smaller companies that number less than 20 employees, but if it proves to be a success, it might be just the start of a longer road for them.
