Getting a good night’s sleep is something we take for granted as children but most often lack as adults – there is a large number of people all around the world who don’t sleep well at night. If you don’t get a restful enough sleep, this can usually lead to health issues that range from heart disease to depression.

In a world that moves faster and faster, the time has come to rely on the advancements in technology to get the sleep we need.

Back in April, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg told everyone following him on Instagram that he has created a ‘sleep box’ to help his wife Priscilla sleep better at night without having to worry constantly about waking up to check on the kids.

She’ll wake up and check the time on her phone to see if the kids might wake up soon, but then knowing the time stresses her out and she can’t fall back asleep.” Zuckerberg said in the post.So I worked on building her what I call the “sleep box”. It sits on her nightstand, and between the hours of 6-7am it emits a very faint light — visible enough that if she sees it she’ll know it’s an okay time for one of us to get the kids, but faint enough that the light won’t wake her up if she’s still sleeping. And since it doesn’t show the time, if she wakes up in the middle of the night, she knows to just go back to sleep without having to worry about what time it is.

Under the photo of the box he built, he also added that a lot of his friends said they would have liked to have a sleep box of their own. To that Zuckerberg said that he is “putting this out there in case another entrepreneur wants to run with this and build sleep boxes for more people!”

And a small team from Premiere Electronics LLC was inspired by his creation and made it real for the rest of us. They dubbed it the Zucklight: a sleep box that is meant to be placed on the bedside table and help the users sleep undisturbed through the night.

The box emits a very faint light of a different color during the night, to let the users know if they can still continue to sleep or should wake up instead, without the need for them to check on their watches, or worse – take up their smartphones, look at the time and then keep scrolling instead of sleeping.

The Zucklight, its worth noting, doesn’t feature an alarm and does not make any other type of noises. The time, light color and brightness level are all controlled by a companion app.

The sleep box comes in three versions: the Zucklight Lite, which is the base variant, the Zucklight Plus, which arrives with a wireless charger and the Zucklight Pro, which features humidity, temperature and CO2 sensors.

This latter version will alert you when the carbon dioxide is above normal levels, making sure that you keep your bedroom airy and in perfect form for a good sleep.

The sleep box is currently up on Kickstarter and the early birds can grab it for about 50% off, so if you feel like you’re just not sleeping right these days, the Zucklight might be that helping hand you need.
