John Kodera, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment has insisted again and again that there will be no new PlayStation until 2021, but that might not be the case.
Gaming Industry Analyst Hideki Yasuda, who works for the Osaka-based firm Ace Economic Research Institute says in a recent report that the “introduction of the PS5 will be at the end of 2019”.
According to the report, the PS5 will utilize high-end computer graphics alongside the installation of a number of MLCC components. The MLCC’s are multilayer ceramic capacitors and they are the crucial component for delivering the PS5 in time – if they cannot be manufactured within the right time frame and are proven to not be cost effective, the release date might be pushed back.
The possible release would give Sony a good start on Microsoft, who might be launching their Xbox around the same time. If any of this proves to be true, we’re in for quite the dramatic reveal and definitely something to invest some Christmas present money in.
Could they hint at it during the IFA 2018? We’ll wait and see, maybe something slips.
