The SIHH watch fair took place in Geneva this week and among all the watches that were displayed, the one that got everyone’s attention was The Swiss Alp Watch Concept Black from H. Moser & Cie.
The watch looks a lot like the Apple smartwatch in shape and size but rather than reveal the information one would expect from a smartwatch, this device doesn’t have a dial, hands or any other means that can actually display the time.
The watch relies only on sound to tell you the time of the day.
The watch features a tourbillon mechanism that counteracts the effects of gravity on the movement of the watch. To know the time, the wearer will have to listen to the minute repeater function – through a series of chimes, they’ll be able to hear the time.
The company intended for the watch to look like a smartwatch on standby, which it does, and it also wanted to bring back the watch to its rightful place in timekeeping, instead of a device that displays notifications.
The watch has a power reserve of 87 hour and a platinum case. But it’s the tourbillon that makes the price on this piece, and what a price it is! The watch costs no less than $350,000.
