At the F8 Conference in 2019, Facebook announced what the company calls a massive redesign of the platform, calling it the New Facebook. With an updated feel and a redesign for a new age of technology, the new layout might prove to be confusing, with an emphasis place on Groups and Events. The social network cited that the two are the reason users visit Facebook regularly. Subsequently, this means that the layout will receive a massive overhaul, News Feed included.
This redesign includes some features that users asked for a long time, like the ability to have a light or dark design. It can be considered cleaner and more accessible, but it will take some time to get used to the new way it looks.
Facebook also wants to concentrate on communities and private interactions, suggesting at the conference that the company will police what we get on Facebook in the future. This new iteration focuses more on friends and family as a core of the virtual social life, but the way the users will get content is still the News Feed. Thus the social network wants it to evolve into something more. That something is a News Feed that will deliver more updates on Groups Tab, the discovery of new groups that are pertinent to the user, or the News Feed for groups, addressing recent activity within groups.
With the recent expansion of Facebook into live streaming, gaming, and VR, new specific features will be available, like chat for Gaming Groups, interaction improvements for Facebook Live, and a big update for the Facebook Marketplace.
To access the New Facebook redesign, go to the Settings drop-down menu, select the option at the bottom that says Switch to New Facebook, and you are all set to experience the new design with improved features.
