Converse just made their famous sneakers even cooler by embedding a wah pedal in the sole! #objectmagic
As part of the recent Hack-a-chuck competition (run by Creative Social, Converse and Google+), they came up with a Converse that plays music. The idea was that every time the user would flex the foot carrying the All Wah Converse, it would get the “wah” sound expected. The crazy idea was made eventually possible with the help of design firm Critical Mass and technology fashion company Cute Circuits, but how did they get there?
First, a flex sensor was needed to measure the amount of flex exerted by the foot. Then, a digital potentiometer was used to get that information and translate into the level of wah required by the guitarist. By using a Wah box with Bluetooth, the sound is released accurately. The whole system wouldn’t have worked if they didn’t drill two holes on each side of the shoe to acommodate the wires for the guitar and amp.
See the Converse in action above, appropriately called Chet Akins All Wah.
